Lessons in history

You can stay stuck in beautiful worlds that have past
Trying to create an impression that beyond time, some things do last
But what about the true gaping holes you see
When you realize your thoughts are just an illusion, just fantasy?

You could choose to remain in the after-the-fact galore
And forget what truly made things turn sour
But what is the guarantee that you will not remember the various lows
In what you make yourself believe was the perfect show?

You could choose to cling on, with that desperate feeling
And make a habit of it, get your mind reeling
With happy memories, moments of the past
But how long will you stretch an illusion, when somethings aren't just meant to last?

You can hide in the pretty blankets of memories, for the known is always comfortable and caring
For even if its full of thorns, the familiarity it brings seems worth having
But little do you know what's right in your face, what could be a new ride, and maybe a better one
If only you let go, and open your soul to another one

For what is the past's worth, if it only closes new doors with secrets unknown
What is the use of being someone new yet living in lost memories
The world embraces easily and forgives more than you think

If only, you realize the now is worth much more than the past can bring
For the present moment is simply, everything.
